The offer comes after new research revealed 74 per cent of Australians are suffering from a new post-lockdown phenomenon: Fear of Having People Over (FOHPO).

After months of gruelling shutdowns across NSW and Victoria, a study conducted by Uber Eats shows millions are feeling the pressure of hosting more than ever before. again.

Characterised by a number of concerns, FOHPO symptoms are said to include feeling anxious about being generally under-prepared, not having enough food and being surprised by a guest’s new dietary requirement.

Forty per cent of Australians suffer from FOHPO, according to the research, while a third say their anxiety about welcoming guests has increased since lockdown.

More than a quarter say they feel ‘out of practice’ hosting guests, with two in three admitting they are likely to forget items when having people over.

The most frequently forgotten items are snacks, soft drinks, and alcohol, which are all available on food delivery apps like Uber Eats.

Regional General Manager for Grocery and Retail, Lucas Groeneveld, says the findings prompted the roll out of the 50 per cent discount.

‘After months of only cooking for ourselves, this research has confirmed just how out of practice we are when it comes to having people over again,’ Mr Groeneveld said.

‘Many of us are finding ourselves in need of some quick back-up, whether it’s a missing ingredient, a cold drink or carpet cleaner to get that last minute stain out.’

He added: ‘Our message to Aussies who are jumping back in the saddle and playing host is, if you’re in a pickle just jump on the Uber Eats app and get that forgotten item delivered to your door.’
