Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are going their separate ways after being married for almost five years.
In a joint statement shared Wednesday to Momoa’s Instagram account, the 42-year-old Game Of Thrones star and the 54-year-old Cosby Show actress announced that they are separating.
‘We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,’ their statement read. ‘And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.’

The couple explained in their statement that they weren’t announcing their separation ‘because we think it’s newsworthy, but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.’
‘The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become…’ they continued.
‘Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children,’ they concluded. ‘Teaching our Children What’s possible ~ Living the Prayer.
‘May Love Prevail,’ they added, signing off as ‘J & L.’
Momoa and Bonet’s romance goes back to 2004, when they were introduced by mutual friends at a jazz club performance.

The couple’s post also included several meditative photos, though they didn’t spell out their connection to the separation announcement.
One image featured a lovely peach-colored sunset in which a crescent moon could already be seen glowing in the sky.
Another photo showed poles erected outside that appeared to be decorated with rectangular strips of white fabric covered in small black text.
Two more photos appeared to show two people holding small birds in their palms.
The figures were presumably the couple’s children: daughter Lola, 14, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 13.
Bonet also shares her adult daughter Zoë Kravitz, 33, with her ex-husband Lenny Kravitz.

Bonet and Kravitz eloped in 1987, but later divorced in 1993.
In 2019, Momoa admitted to Esquire that he had been obsessed with Bonet during her stint on the Cosby show when he was young.
‘I mean, I didn’t tell her that. I didn’t let her know I was a stalker until after we had the kids,’ he joked, adding ‘if someone says something isn’t possible, I’m like, “Listen here, I married Lisa Bonet. Anything is f***king possible.’
Kravitz would later confirm that he continued to have a strong friendship with his ex-wife and with Momoa.
In 2018, Bonet described her first meeting with her future husband at a jazz club in 2004 to Porter magazine.
‘I can’t say it was full-on from the moment we saw each other, but we have been together from the day that we met,’ she shared.

Following their club meet-up, the two went to a cafe for some grits and Guinness, which solidified their connection.
‘In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do,’ Bonet continued. ‘He basically picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, caveman style!’
The couple later welcomed Lola in 2007 and Nakao-Wolf in 2008.
Momoa described being a father as a way of forcing him to get his life together in a 2017 Men’s Health interview.
‘I really can’t tell you what the hell I was doing before I had kids. Just f***ing off. Wasting time. I think I was pretty reckless and definitely a bit out of control,’ he explained. ‘Now I’m more focused. I probably love myself more and take care of myself more because I want to stick around.’
The two later married at the Topanga, California, home in November 2017.
In the can: The Game Of Thrones star revealed in December on Instagram that he had completed filming for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom
Lately, Momoa has been hard at work filming the sequel to his blockbuster superhero film Aquaman.
He announced in December that the DC film had finished shooting in Hawaii, following a trip to the UK for additional scenes.
‘Aw man, that’s a wrap. That’s a wrap, Aquaman 2,’ he announced in a video he shot of himself at a beach in Hawaii. ‘I have so much to share with you, I wish… I could tell you so much. What an epic day. I love you.’
Momoa also appeared last year in the critically acclaimed epic science fiction film Dune, which featured Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac and Josh Brolin.
As his career has continued to ramp up following his breakout role on HBO’s iconic series Game Of Thrones, Bonet has taken on fewer roles.
Her last major parts were in 2016, with two episodes on Lena Dunham’s HBO comedy Girls and an arc on Showtime’s Ray Donovan from the same year.
