A dietitian has shared her delicious recipe for an alcohol-free pina colada just in time for New Year’s Eve – and it won’t add inches to your waistline.

Susie Burrell, who lives in Sydney, uses a mixture of fresh fruit, milk, frozen yoghurt, desiccated coconut and ice to create a smoothie consistency that can be enjoyed at any festive party.

To make the beverage the mum-of-two starts by adding a quarter of a cup of frozen pineapple and a quarter cup of frozen banana to a blender.

She then adds one tablespoon of desiccated coconut to enhance the tropical flavour pina coladas are known – and loved – for.

Susie scoops 60 grams worth of Twisted Vanilla Bean Frozen Yoghurt, which is both gluten free and 75 calories per serving, into the blender to thicken the mixture.

Next she adds 200ml of milk and ice cubes to help the drink blend well and maintain its icy temperature.

The final step is to blend all of the ingredients together and enjoy by the pool.

Susie topped her version of the beverage off with a garnish of fresh pineapple to give it true fruity pina colada flair.

The dietitian encouraged all of her followers to give it a try on Instagram, joking that ‘if things are really dire you have permission to add whatever you need to get you through’.

Susie’s simple recipe received high praise from those looking to avoid alcohol this silly season.
